Making an entrance - Rolls Royce, Mayfair
Making an entrance - Rolls Royce, Mayfair

Case Study by Automatic Access, a record Diamond Partner

HR Owen's new Rolls Royce Showroom recently opened in Mayfair featuring some stunning design features including a door modelled on Rolls Royce's famous Pantheon grille and video illusions to create a new virtual experience for clients, day and night.

The Brief

An innovative installation, Automatic Access, a record Diamond Partner was commissioned to design and install the show-stopping bi-parting polished stainless steel doors, frames and side screen.

The Solution

Working in conjunction with McLaren Glazing London Ltd, Automatic Access chose record's special Heavy Duty DUO Motor STA 22/200 door operators, built in Switzerland, to operate the door leaves, as no other electric mechanical operator can handle these unusually heavy door leaves which weigh 180kg each.

record's RIC 290 Sensors using microwave and active infrared technology were also chosen, for their ease of installation and outstanding level of safety along with record's AIS 290 Sensors to provide secondary protection to clients using the main entrance.

Trevor Allsop, Director at Automatic Access commented, "The weight and strength of the doors are perfect for a prestigious car showroom, where security is imperative. record's STA 22/200 door operator was the ideal choice to automated these doors, as not only is it exceptionally strong, sturdy and reliable, it is also exceptionally quiet in operation, which given the size of the doors is impressive. The inclusion of record sensors too gives peace of mind that the doors will open safely at all times".

Quadram Institute in Norwich
Quadram Institute in Norwich

Case Study by Elite Entrance Systems, a record Diamond Partner

The Quadram Centre is a state-of-the-art food and health research and endoscopy centre that develops solutions to worldwide challenges in food-related disease and human health.

The Brief

To shield the bi-parting swing doors for disabled access, which are installed at the main entrance. Whilst the swing doors overlook fields providing a scenic outlook they, unfortunately, don't protect the reception area from the weather, resulting in a cold, draughty environment for both staff and visitors.

The Solution

Elite Entrance Systems, designed and built an internal lobby to protect the main entrance from harsh winds and provide an ambient temperature at all times. Complete with an STA 20 Sliding Door to create a hassle-free opening and ensure the safe, efficient flow of large numbers of people, the reception area has now been transformed.

In order to avoid disruption to the Institute, Elite's engineers carried out the installation over one weekend, working from 8.00 -19.00 on both days - a total of just 22 hours to complete all works, including inductions, mains power run and fire-alarm re-routing.

Alan Hutchison, Director at Elite Entrance Systems commented "I am extremely proud of our team of engineers, they worked incredibly hard in awful weather conditions to produce a stunning lobby area with an STA 20 sliding door, which fits seamlessly into the overall look of the Institute and creates a warm and welcoming entrance into the reception area".

FlowControl at Smart Door Solutions

Based in South Yorkshire, Smart Doors Solutions Ltd is a door supplier with over 65 years' of collective experience in the automatic, commercial and industrial doors.

The Brief

Following the coronavirus lockdown, Smart Door Solutions sought to implement the correct procedures within their office at Barnsley, to become Covid-19 Secure and aid social distancing for their office-based employees and field engineers who regularly call into the office.

The Solution

record's FlowControl has been installed on the existing STA 20 Sliding Door into Smart Door Solutions' main shared office to limit the number of employees, visiting engineers and customers (once further restrictions are lifted), at any one time.

For this busy shared area, the FlowControl was the ideal choice as it gives reassurance to Smart Doors Solutions that once the pre-defined people count is reached, in this case - 7 people, the entrance door will automatically deactivate and prevent further access until someone leaves the area.

This user-friendly system is easily adjustable by all employees to suit different working patterns within the office and comes complete with visible green and red LED stripes to show when entry is allowed or denied.

Lee Steele, Managing Director commented: “The FlowControl has been extremely effective in ensuring the people limit is never exceeded within the shared office. The LED stripes are bright, and the system is robust and easy to use, enabling employees to social distance safely whilst carrying out their work”.

record FlowControl at PetPlace
record FlowControl at PetPlace

Award-winning retailer PetPlace offers a range of products from healthcare and food items to workwear, bedding, nutritional supplements, and equine goods.

A growing, passionate business, the company also provides services including dog washing and grooming, and even a revolutionary dog play park, coffee shop and cinema.

With other stores in Ruthin, Chirk, Llangefni and Mold, and a headquarters in Mochdre, the business continued to operate safely and successfully during the Coronavirus lockdown, scaling-up its click and collect facility and posting a 600% increase in online orders.

The Brief

Before re-opening the Abergele store, PetPlace considered a number of solutions and different measures to ensure they were Covid-19 secure, to protect both customers and staff whilst providing reassurance and peace of mind that all new procedures facilitated safe social distancing.

The Solution

record's FlowControl system was installed on PetPlace's automatic sliding entrance door to control the number of customers entering the store.

Whilst the visible surface mounted green and red LED stripes which clearly identify if entry is allowed or denied appealed to PetPlace, the ability to automatically deactivate the entrance door once the pre-defined people count is reached was a deciding factor, as it prevents further access until a customer exits the building.

This has enabled PetPlace to safely redeploy staff who would have otherwise manned the entrance/exit doors, in the knowledge that customers are accurately counted and allowed access only when it is safe to do so.

The user-friendly system also appealed to the firm, as it can be manually adjusted quickly and easily to suit peak/off-peak hours, complying with safety regulations.

Managing Director Sion Pritchard said: “We are really impressed with how effective and reliable the FlowControl is at counting and limiting the number of customers entering our store, without the need for our staff to intervene.

“Such is the confidence we have in this system that we are rolling the FlowControl out to our other four stores over the next week, to reassure our team and customers that we are following social distancing measures to protect them.”
